Hellooooo everybody!

I just realised I've been forgetting to include "Comment of the week" on my weekly updates so here's a catch up

So now that's out the way! This last week has been really varied! From interviews, meetings, website designing and dress fitting I feel sad that not much music has fitted into my week. I really need a bigger team on board so I can just focus on being creative. But hey! I'm not one to complain, it's been an amazing week and I have written a few song ideas and had a band rehearsal etc. Next week I'm heading off to Beach Break for a full week of music, so thanks again to you guys for helping me get the gig! This skirt, is basically an imitation of this Vivienne Westwood number - worn by Kate Moss. It's practically the width of my piano. I wish I had those shoes to match! I can't remember who makes those shoes, but I noticed Lady GaGa wearing a white pair in the new Alejandro video. I might include a bit more of this stuff on the new fashion blog *coming soon*

We've also been working on this dress

It's actually changed a little bit since then, it's much lower cut and the ribbons gone and it's a bit shorter! But the inspiration for this was from one of Jeremy Scott's catwalks, check this

Anyway, as I said, I'll put more of this kind of stuff on the fashion blog once it's launched!

Music find of the week: ...so this is maybe a bit embarrassing. I'm 19, and have only really just found The Velvet Underground and Black Sabbath. I had heard of them before and new a few songs, but I guess I just hadn't listened in depth. But I'm guessing that there'll be a fair few of you younger people that haven't checked them out, so if you've got Spotify, go have a listen because they're incredible.

Weekly Update #2

A lot has happened since I last updated. Spent a couple of days in the studio working on "Love Flu" and "Dirty Beat", it's all going well so hopefully you guys will get to hear the results by the end of this month. We then had a gig on Monday @ LIVE NIGHT in The Cavendish Arms (London)..it was an interesting show with everything from MC's to comedians then to us headlining, I got some video footage so mayyyyybe I'll get that edited up for you all, but in the mean time there's some photos below. We then did an industry showcase on Thursday where I got compared to "Shirley Manson" from Garbage and Annie Lennox - not bad! I also made some videos which are right at the bottom of this post.

We played @ The Great Escape in Brighton on Friday afternoon @ 2pm in The Komedia. All I can say is..."Third time lucky!".

1st year: Piano was half the size it should have been so the songs barely fitted on it and the 5 minute soundcheck was spent trying to find a piano sound instead of drum loops!

2nd year: The venue had tripple booked. There was a wedding reception upstairs. A Manchester United football match on the ground floor...WITH US. So a fight broke out between my fans and the football fans and the show got shut down early.

3rd year, this year: Went incredibly! Many CDs were sold, autographs were given, much love was shared..and I even got some great footage which I'll compile once I get the audio from the sound guy.

I have woken up to a very encouraging day! Firstly, I was made a featured artist on www.thesixtyone.com which made me happy because it was then followed by people leaving some crazy comments like

"Blow me away, pick me up, then fly me through the air. Strength in a voice like this should hold back storms and keep the lions at bay." --- I like that one a lot.

It's not produced properly or anything, I was just mucking around on garageband for a couple of hours and that's what I came up with.

Really enjoyed the show last night. From what I hear everyone else did too :D so that's good!
So good to be back with new songs and back on the stage where I belong!

I'm thinking maybe a Paramore cover for the next YouTube...all the social media experts say you should release videos regularly to keep your fans happy...but I think you might agree with me that it's more special and genuine this way. I never started YouTube as a promotional tool, I was only 15 when I posted my first video. Anyhoo, the desire to make a video is growing! So I'm sure it'll be there soon!

Anyway, I just wanted to give a big shout out to all of you who came last night, it was so good to see you. I've been on a high ever since I came off stage last night.

I would recommend listening to Alex Baker's show this Sunday on Kerrang - there's a fairly good chance that he will play a new song of mine "Love to Hate you". Follow the facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/LindaHarrisonMusic), and I'm sure I'll update you all if it gets played!!!

Do what you need to get through school, but seek out what you really want to learn in your own time.

Most of the stuff you learn is either wrong or useless. When/if you get to uni - some of you will be told in your first lesson to forget what you've learnt, and some of you will just find that whatever you learnt was pointless.

Why were we never taught about The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen, Buddy Holly...?

To all the Scots out there - were you taught Auld Lang Syne? Were you taught the Scottish National Anthem? Surely as Scottish people we need to know that stuff, why aren't we forced to memorise it in junior school? It's embarrassing.

Why does the school system squash creative people? Why are we told that art, drama and music aren't "real" subjects, or that they're hobbies?! And why are we then told in music that we have to do specific things and stick to specific rules? If you do something wrong you're either stupid or naughty or have no talent...apparently.

I know that some of you guys out there feel trapped, or feel like you're crazy cause you think differently to your friends, or maybe you're going through something awful and you feel you can't talk about it. I reckon most of the schools out there will be letting you down. You've probably learnt to hide what you really think and what you really feel. But take that emotion and turn it into something positive - make some art, get online and share your experiences and get help and help others, build the strength to talk to someone. After all - if everyone looks inside themselves - we all have a heart-breaking secret. And nobody is immune to stress.

Once you're out of that school system, do what you love, be who you want to be, and lose your self-consciousness and let go. I've only just realized, it doesn't matter what people think of you or what you do - if you let loose, chances are people will actually love you more for it. The people that criticize and judge you probably don't know you very well, so why worry about their opinions? For every person that hates it - there's probably another person that loves it.

It's been an interesting few months, with loads of high highs and low lows. As it comes to the end of a great year, a lot of us are reminiscing on the past but also looking to the future.

Lately I've been looking at so many amazing artists (not just musicians, but poets, photographers, fashion designers - the lot!) and thinking how on earth I can be as great as they are. However, tonight I remembered something I used to always tell myself when I was young;
"you're the best, but you're no better than the rest". I think it works for everyone. If you're getting arrogant, you remind yourself to be humble; but when you're lacking confidence, you remind yourself that everyone is equal. We are so lucky to have so many imaginative people out there that are working to share their art with us.

I want to say a big thanks to all of you guys that have been supporting me through buying my music, it means the world. Also thanks to those of you who have left comments, e-mailed me and rated my videos on YouTube, you guys are my support and those of you who I've gotten to know a little are incredible people. I hope you all have a happy Christmas and an incredible New Year. It's time to let go and party!

What a crazy week it's been. I'm not going to name drop, but I have worked with some incredible writers/producers this week, who have all been in the top 10 chart in the uk within the last few years.

The YouTube is going CRAZY at the moment! Where have all you come from!!!?!? One day I'm getting 500 views a day and then suddenly it goes up to 9,000!?! Thanks for spreading the love guys.

I haven't had one moment to sit and chill this week, but I have loved every minute of it, and will be bringing you new material asap! We're gonna make something serious happen.

So I'm just sitting here chilling out after a rather eventful week thinking I should say hello to all of you. I've had an interesting week...somebody decided to trash my car with a brick - who does that!? Anyway - thank you whoever you are, I'm sure I'll write a great song about you...prick.

Anyway, I was thinking about all you guys out there in California - thank you for all your support! I really wanna come and play for you guys. But California is a masssssssive place...and I don't know where abouts you guys are...anyone wanna give me a hint?! It's also rather expensive, so I'd need to find funding from somewhere..and probably a place to stay...but you know, we could make it happen if we wanted. Let me know if you have any ideas :)

Playing acoustically for the first time with my band...it's Karl and Phil on acoustic guitars and me without my piano, come check it out at The Boileroom, Guildford this Tuesday coming.

The response to my YouTube videos has been incredible with both "Fight About It" and "Meet Me Halfway" (Black Eyed Peas cover) getting into the top 50 of Top Rated Music Videos in the UK on YouTube in the weeks they were released. So thank you all for spreading the word!!!

As most of you know "Fight About It" was released by myself with no record label or anything, and it has been available exclusively online for the last couple of weeks. Hello everybody.

As some of you may have noticed, the single release today didn’t go quite as planned. There have been several technical problems completely out of my control. I’m absolutely devastated, and have been calling and leaving messages from midnight trying to figure out what happened and get it fixed. I have now been promised that iTunes will release the single/EP on Wednesday, and that it will appear on all other sites (Amazon/Napster/Rhapsody and many more) between Saturday and Sunday. As for those of you who were sent the track via mobile, I have notified the company and they have promised me they will send you all a new code by tomorrow morning.

I’m so sorry to all of you who were eagerly at your computers first thing this morning, I was too and am truly gutted. HOWEVER, even though this has been an uphill battle if we all tell everyone to go to iTunes on Wednesday, it’ll all have been worth it! So spread the word, and let’s make something positive happen!

Everything is going very well! So well in fact that I'm now able to 100% confirm that my debut single "Fight About It" will be available worldwide on 14th September 2009!

It is 100% self-released - that basically means that it's 100% me.

I've spent every single spare minute and every single spare penny I could find on this release. So if you don't buy it, not only will I be very sad and only write sad songs for the rest of my life...but I will also probably starve due to a lack of money...

If you'd rather I didn't starve...please carry on reading

Hey everyone,

I supported The Coronas last night in Guildford @ The Boileroom! It went so well! So much better than I had imagined. They are an incredible band, and I got a lot of new support, so I'm dead happy!

I also got a new video camcorder and so have started using my youtube.com/lindablog account, make sure you subscribe to get the latest info and backstage stuff etc!

I am so tired! I've been working so hard on my music stuff and I've got coursework for college atm, so it's all very stressful.

However, something great happened today! I finalized the line up for my band!

I've got Toby Hayes as musical director and bassist, Phil Smaczny on guitar and Rob Parsons on drums. They're all fantastic musicians, and I can't wait to start gigging.

I also have been confirmed for The Great Escape festival in Brighton, and Beach Break in Cornwall - next term is going to rock my socks! Man I'm so excited!

Sunday morning, sun is shining!

Hello!

Hope you guys are all well! I thought I would keep you updated as to whats going on with me at the moment.

Tomorrow I'm holding my band auditions, which is going to be scary or fun - we'll see! I reckon I'll probably lose my voice after singing 2 of my songs full blast over and over and over and over for 2 hours.

I've been having lots of meetings with industry related people but still haven't signed anything. Trying to keep my options open :)

Downloaded this new thing called Spotify - I would recommend that any music lover downloads this! It's genius, you can listen to loads and loads of albums and music for free with very few adverts - it's really good!

I'm trying to come up with a title for my new EP...any ideas?!

I've also just bought a rather expensive video camera, I haven't received it yet - apparently it's out of stock :( But after that you'll be getting video updates rather than text updates!

Hey everyone,

I have had a very exciting past two months so I thought it was about time I updated you all!
You may have seen me on TV in the last couple of weeks. I was rather zoomed in on, on Eurovision - Your Country Needs You. I got through three rounds and then they put me in a girl band...can you believe it? Me...and girl band? Should they really stay in the same sentence. That's where the story ended...they said that I was a singer songwriter and shouldn't be in a show where I have to cover other peoples songs and that girl band wasn't really my style...I very much agree there!

I also got a message from Frankmusik and I recommend that if you haven't heard him, you go check him out cause he is wicked! ALSO I got a message from Cutfather, one of the writers of 'I Hate This Part', he loved my cover and wanted to try collaborating, and I've been working on that the last few days.

I also managed to get 'Fight About it' up on myspace, if you haven't heard it yet, go check it out and leave a comment telling me what you think. I was in the studio all day today recording 'Break Up', which you can find if you search 'Linda Harrison Break Up Live' on youtube. I also received my co-write that I did with Adam Argyle a couple of months back, it's called 'Kryptonite' and I expect that will be on my EP when I release it...which will be sooooooon - patience! Please go in search of Adam Argyle on myspace, he is an incredible singer/songwriter, and well worth a listen, he's written with the likes of Newton Faulkner, who is a bit of a genius.

Now...I bet when you think "Linda Harrison", you don't think "Eurovision Song Contest". I bet even me putting those two titles in the same sentence has lost be some credibility already. BUT this year the United Kingdom are trying very hard to do better at this competition and they asked me to audition, so I thought "Ok, what's there to lose? Maybe I could bring a bit of edge to the competition, maybe we can bring some credibility back to it...but then again maybe not". I sent in a video, and I've got through to the live auditions in London! So I get to go to Westbourne Studios in London (all expenses paid) and sing two songs in front of the judges. I only had 15 mins to decide the songs but I chose "I Want it All" - Queen, "Break-Up" - Linda Harrison (ME!) and they let me put the third one in "Stop & Stare" - One Republic. Now, the last time I had to audition was for X-factor in 2006, and that show was a complete set-up, but is fantastic to watch...will this be a set-up just like that? I'm so excited to go to London, Westbourne Studios are near Portobello Road so I definately think some shopping is in order. I AM SO EXCITED, this is going to be SO much fun! But I feel like they're probably looking for someone a bit different to me, I think they'll be looking for someone more Christina Aguilera-esque or the next Mariah Carey. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

First Blog and New Website!

Hello!

Wow, where do I start? I've just made a brand new website, and for my first shot at making a website, I gotta say I'm chuffed! www.lindaharrisonmusic.com

Yesturday I had what ACM (the Academy of Contemporary Music) call an IPS day, which stands for Industry Performance Showcase. Basically you go in and there's a panel usually consisting of 3 people from within the music industry, and you play 2 tracks, and they tell you what they think. Yesturday there was Rich Holley (Peer Music), who I already know and is a fantastic guy that's been setting me up with co-writes, he was the man that helped Newton Faulkner get to where he is today. There was also Ellie Giles (Fiction records/Polydor), who was very helpful and gave me some advice. And last but most certainly not least Mike Walsh (XFM), who really gave me that bit of encouragement I was needing. Mike suggested I send a song of mine off to Pink or Avril Lavigne. Ellie told me to have a look at PJ Harvey and Patty Smith for insperation, if you haven't heard of them check them out. Their worry was that the industry might try and bland me down, like it has to so many artists.

I'm also planning on writing some rock tunes in the near future, so that'll be fun for me. Unfortunately I've been out of singing for about 3 weeks, so I haven't managed to do all the recording and performing I expected to do, but hopefully between exams and coursework I'll get some Youtube videos up - I'm loving the new Pussycat dolls song, so I think I might cover that.
